Professional Team

Matt Deal, Head Professional

I turned Professional in 1991 and have 30 years’ experience as a Golf Professional and Coach. I have been the Club Professional at Hendon since 2000. Prior to working as a Club Professional, my playing career included competing in regional and national tournaments.

I am an Advanced Golf Professional with the PGA and maintain this status by participating in continuing professional development, seminars, webinars, and courses to stay abreast of the latest developments and thinking in coaching.

I have a passion for coaching golfers of all levels:
I was County Coach to Middlesex for 8 years, focusing on Junior development within the County.

I believe every golfer can benefit from coaching on a regular or intermittent basis. I would be happy to discuss your individual needs whether that be a quick fix or something to work on over a longer term and put a programme together to help you reach your goals. I enjoy coaching all aspects of the game. My passion is to improve player’s impact. How we contact the ball is golf’s moment of truth because impact is destiny.

Luke Goddard, Assistant Professional

I have been a member of Hendon Golf Club since I was 15 and played at club and county level. Whilst still an amateur, at 18, I was selected to play in several international events for the England Men’s Squad. Highlights of my amateur career were winning the Argentinian and English Amateur Championships before being selected for the Great Britain & Ireland squad in the 2009 Walker Cup.

As a professional I played on the European, Challenge and EuroPro tours before starting my PGA Professional qualification in 2017.

I predominantly play by feel and my coaching often reflects this. I enjoy coaching all aspects of an individual’s golf game with my biggest passion being improving short game technique.

Arthur Pattison, Assistant Professional

I am a fully qualified PGA Professional with over 11 years of experience in the golf industry.

I began my journey as a junior member at North Middlesex Golf Club, later working in the professional shop for four years while developing my game. I then moved to Sudbury Golf Club to begin my PGA training, before joining Hendon Golf Club, where I continue to coach and develop players.

I enjoy working with golfers of all abilities, from beginners to experienced players, refining their skills. I have a particular interest in playing lessons, helping golfers improve on-course performance through better course management, smarter shot selection, and consistent routines—supporting them in lowering scores and achieving their goals.

Away from golf, I enjoy training in the gym, and I am currently working towards becoming a qualified personal trainer. My goal is to specialise in sport-specific training alongside my coaching, helping players enhance performance through improved movement, efficiency and a better understanding of their physical capabilities.
