The Men’s Section

What is on offer?

Whatever your golf handicap you will find that Hendon Golf Club has plenty of friendly competitive golf with fellow members and other golf clubs in the area.

The Men’s section at Hendon organises numerous competitions and roll-ups throughout the year. You will find a summary of what is on offer below.

Medals and Stablefords

During the spring and summer months, there is a medal and or Stableford competition each month. Most medals are played on the first Saturday of the month with Stablefords on the third, leaving the other two weekends for more friendly games. There are also mid-week competitions.
While there are no medals during the winter months, the Stablefords continue to form a Winter League, the winner of which is the player with the best four aggregate scores for the season.

Midweek Roll-up

The midweek roll-up is one of the most popular events at Hendon. It runs every Wednesday throughout the year. Just turn up around 10 am and your name goes into a random draw for a 3-ball Stableford competition. Great fun and a great way to meet other members.

Knock-out Competitions

During both the summer and winter, we hold knock-out tournaments for all levels of golf – Tigers (up to 6 handicap) Sabres (7-11) Foxes (12-18), Rabbits (19-24), Eagles (under 35 years old) and 5-day members.

Team Golf

Hendon runs a number of teams who play in inter-club leagues against other golf clubs located mainly within Middlesex. Based on members’ handicap ranges, players can represent Hendon in one of the inter-club leagues. In some cases, players may be eligible to play in more than one league.
Most inter-league matches are played on a home and away basis from April through to September, however, some leagues commence earlier and finish later in the season.

Scratch Team

Hendon’s scratch team competes annually in Middlesex Golf’s Frank Rowse Trophy and President’s Foursomes competitions, both of which have been won by Hendon in recent years. With all matches being played off scratch, any male member qualifies for team selection. Hendon is also always well represented in the county singles knock-out event, the Gowland Trophy, as well as the Team Championship at the Middlesex County Amateur.

Eagles

Hendon Eagles, sometimes known as “Young Guns”, are the Under 35’s. They play against several other clubs in the area as well as having their own trophy competition during the summer months.

Sabres

The Sabres are golfers with a handicap of 6 to 10. They play matches home and away against 5 neighbouring golf clubs in a league format. Each team consists of 8 players, playing off scratch on a 4 ball, better ball basis. The Sabres also take part in a Middlesex competition known as The Bullivant Bowl, a knock-out team competition with players playing off scratch on a 4 ball, better ball basis.

Foxes

The Foxes are golfers with handicaps between 9.5 and 18.5. The Foxes are in the North London League and play matches during the week on a home and away basis. Each game consists of 8 players from each team playing singles match play. There is also a pairs knock-out competition (format: better ball) at the beginning and end of each season.

Rabbits

The Rabbits are golfers with handicaps of 19 and above. They compete against other clubs throughout the spring, summer, and autumn on a match-play basis. The Rabbits play 30+ matches a season on a home and away basis with an emphasis on having fun, meeting and socialising with other like-minded golfers.

Seniors

The Hendon Seniors more commonly known in the club as “The Ancient Brits” are open to all male members aged over 60 (and over 55’s who have retired from full-time work). During the main golf season, the Seniors play matches against 12 other local golf clubs on a home and away basis. The format is teams of 2 players playing in a four-ball format. Matches generally commence at 8.30 am and finish with a friendly lunch at Hendon or the host club.
